Last year I was happy to join a panel at Cheltenham Literature Festival, talking about Interstate, the nature of the country you find at the US roadside, and how that reality makes a lot of recent American politics seem a whole lot less surprising than much commentary suggests.
The festival appearance was enjoyable, and I was happy that it led Monocle to invite me on to their podcast, Meet the Writers, to talk more about why I write and how it fits together with my travelling.
Other subjects we touched on included how the bicycle set me off as something of a traveller, and how it remains such a loyal travelling companion to me. We also covered developments in the Middle East, and where it feels my writing is leading me in terms of future adventures.
Hope you enjoy listening.
